Antartica Antartica

So far, so Antarctica!

Only in the amazing continent of Antarctica will you find an opportunity to see the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights), breathtaking glaciers and majestic icebergs floating by in a pristine sapphire coloured sea.

The majority of the wildlife are found on the narrow ridges of coastline skirting the islands and mainland and can best be viewed from the sea; birds courting, penguin colonies, seals basking in the sun and whale sightings. It is one of the best wildlife trips in the world!

Overall Antarctica

Antarctica, on average, is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, and has the highest average elevation of all the continents. Antarctica is considered a desert, with annual precipitation of only 200 mm (8 inches) along the coast and far less inland. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by the Antarctic ice sheet, a sheet of ice averaging at least 1.6 km (1.0 mi) thick. Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica at 4,892 m (16,050 ft), is located in the Ellsworth Mountains. Antarctica contains many other mountains, both on the main continent and the surrounding islands. Located on Ross Island, Mount Erebus is the world's southernmost active volcano.

The Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands are one of the last untouched wildlife wonders of the World. Unspoilt beaches, islands and cliffs provide a natural safe-haven for hundreds of species that have made the Falklands their home. Watch albatross soar gracefully through the air against a backdrop of beautiful blue sea and sky, elephant seals sparring on the beach, the tiny Cobb's wren hopping along the shoreline, killer whales circling offshore in pursuit of a meal or sit patiently alongside king penguins and wait for the fluffy chicks to come and take a look at you! The possibilities for enjoying the wildlife experience are endless, as are the photographic opportunities.

South Georgia Islands

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is a British overseas territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. It is a remote and inhospitable collection of islands, consisting of South Georgia and a chain of smaller islands, the South Sandwich Islands.Typical daily maximum temperatures in South Georgia at sea level are around 0 °C in winter (August) and 8 °C in summer (January). The South Sandwich Islands are much colder than South Georgia, being further south and more exposed to cold outbreaks from the Antarctic continent. They are also surrounded by sea ice from the middle of May to late November.
